Sunrisers Hyderabad have severed ties with Australian coach Tom Moody. The IPL team today announced Brian Lara as the head coach in his place.
However, the former West Indies captain was with Hyderabad in the 2022 IPL. However, the West Indies legend worked as a strategic advisor and batting consultant for Hyderabad in the last season of IPL from March 26 to May 29.
Tom Moody was appointed as the head coach by Hyderabad earlier this year. Another Australian Trevor Bayliss was removed as the head coach of the team after the 2021 IPL did not go well. Modi, however, could not change the fortunes of Hyderabad. In the last IPL, Hyderabad could win only 6 matches out of 14 matches, ending the IPL in eighth place.
Throughout the season, Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson has found himself lost. Apart from this, the two main players of the team, Thangarasu Natarajan and Washington Sundar, suffered injuries towards the end of the tournament and Hyderabad was very much in disarray.
That is why young pacer Umran Malik could not make it to the playoffs even after bowling brilliantly.
However, the reason for Tom Moody’s loss as coach is not only Hyderabad’s inability to play well in the 2022 IPL. The Australian coach has become the Cricket Director of United Arab Emirates International League T20 side Desert Vipers.
On the other hand, Lara has been the head coach of a T20 team for the first time, although he has previously worked in franchise-based leagues in various roles.
Apart from him, there are some other former star cricketers in the coaching team of Hyderabad. Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn is working as the team’s bowling coach. Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan is the spin bowling and strategic coach.
