The Indian Navy chief said China remains a strong challenger in this area and is increasing its presence not only on land but also on the maritime border.

Admiral R. Hari Kumar said, “China remains a formidable challenge (for India) and Beijing has increased its presence not only on our land borders but also in the seas by using anti-piracy operations to normalize its naval presence in the Indian Ocean region.”

He also said that a possible war with this adversary cannot be ruled out. In his words, “Although there is daily competition between the two countries, there are sometimes tests of strength, but a possible war with the adversary can never be ruled out even if it does not lead to armed action.”

The Indian Navy chief admiral also said that despite economic constraints, Pakistan continued to modernize its military. “To our west, Pakistan continues to modernize its military despite economic constraints,” he said.
