GameStop COO Jeff Owens Quits After Seven Months

GameStop’s COO Jeff Owens has left the company after seven months as a result of several factors.

Owens said, I have enjoyed my time at GameStop and am proud to have contributed to this organization. The company has yet to announce who will take over his position.

GameStop’s stock is down about 15% in the month of July alone . This might be a good time for GameStop to bring Jeff back, although he has been gone from GameStop longer than his seven months.

In 2012, Owens helped push GameStop forward with its mobile division and hired employees with expertise in the area. However, GameStop has been criticized for not providing enough information about this division or its games.

Owens was not a fan of digital-only releases and said that he was “very concerned” about their lack of availability, but only time will tell if the company’s opinion changes with his departure.

I’m not surprised to hear this. I’m sure Owens and Riccitiello were clashing constantly over poor management decisions and the way GameStop has been handling its business as of late. Hopefully his leaving will lead to better things for gamers and retailers alike.
