Shooting at Kroger grocery store in Tennessee leaves 2 dead, 12 injured

A shooting has left at least two dead and twelve injured in a Kroger grocery store in Tennessee. The shooter, who is still at large, was wearing what witnesses described as “a blue mask with white markings.” Police are urging people to stay away from the area while they search for the shooter.

No motive has been confirmed, but some are speculating that this could be yet another random killing of gun violence. The city where this shooting took place, the small town of Jeffersontown KY, is more than an hour away from any major metropolitan area. With its population just over 44 thousand people, it’s hard to imagine a more unlikely location for such a shooting.

The US has been in the middle of another debate about gun control ever since 17 people died in a mass school shooting last month. The movement, which is gaining support and attention with every day that passes, has gained some ground over the past couple weeks but still hasn’t managed to pass any laws yet.

We at Channel 6 News will bring you more on this story as it swiftly unfolds.

CNN has just released a new poll regarding the status of the US gun debate. In short, most Americans want stricter laws concerning guns, but Congress seems to be ignoring their voice. Only 36% of people surveyed approved of the way Congress is handling this issue.

Meanwhile, our coverage of the Kroger shooting in Jeffersontown KY continues…

A witness who was in the store when it happened says she heard six gunshots go off before people started taking cover. She managed to sneak out through an emergency exit and isn’t sure what happened after that. The suspect is still out there, and the police haven’t released any updates yet. We’ll keep you updated, of course.

And now a new update from Jeffersontown Police Department: they’ve apprehended a suspect! After reviewing security footage from inside the store, they were able to track down a man matching the shooter’s description. Apparently he turned himself in, and it’s expected that he’ll be charged with murder and attempted murder.

The suspect has been identified as Gregory Bush, a 51 year old white male from Louisville KY who had previously been arrested for domestic violence against his own daughter. The two victims of the shooting were both black: Maurice Stallard, a 69 year old man, and Vickie Jones, a 67 year old woman.

It doesn’t seem like there’s going to be an update on the Kroger shooting for a while. The suspects been arrested and charged with two counts of murder, so I don’t think there will be much else coming from this story.

In the meantime, there’s been another shooting at a school. Details are still coming in, but it looks like someone entered a high school in California and started shooting. Injuries have been reported but no deaths as of yet. More as this story develops.

The situation at Salvador Castro Middle School is over, according to police. A female suspect has been arrested, but her identity and the status of her victims at this time is unknown.

The shooting at Salvador Castro Middle School was done by a girl who opened fire on an 8th grade class with a semi-automatic rifle. Two students were injured during the attack: one student in critical condition and another in stable condition. The suspect is 12 years old and has been booked on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Another shooting, this time at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County Maryland. I don’t have many details yet, but the local news is saying that there were three injuries reported so far. Local hospitals are reporting two injured, one of whom is in critical condition.
