Top taxpayers don’t benefit, reducing number of tax cards

The government has promised to provide various special benefits to the best taxpayers.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has noticed the declining importance of tax cards. They are admitting it. In such reality the number of tax cards is being reduced. Now NBR is emphasizing on reducing tax card and ensuring special benefits to card holders.

According to the draft policy, NBR is giving tax cards to 666 best taxpayers across the country every year in various categories.

In this policy, three new benefits are added along with five special benefits for the best taxpayers. The three new benefits are that the best taxpayers can enter the Secretariat. Priority will be given to get rooms in Circuit House.

The Inland Revenue Department says late Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith was instrumental in introducing the tax card for the best taxpayers. The purpose of giving it was to encourage others to come forward to pay taxes. In return, the government will give them some special benefits.

Speaking to some of the best taxpayers, the benefits are on paper. They don’t get all those benefits. Mostafa Azad Chowdhury, the senior vice-president of FBCCI, the top organization of businessmen, said to Prothom Alo, “We were selected as the best taxpayers.” Tax card is given to us. Invitation to civil reception is not available.

They don’t get the respect they deserve.

It is known that the Ministry of Commerce gives CIP card every year as recognition of contribution to export trade.He said, to ensure the facilities, the best taxpayers will be given one smart card from next time. It will be valid for one year.
